Pacific截止阀是用于节流工况或者既有节流又有切断的要求。它们也可以用作切断要求，但由于高压降的缘故，一般情况下只局限于阀门常闭的工况，当阀门打开的时候介质压降并不重要。
通常情况下，截止阀采用流体下入上出的安装方式，但在某些特定条件下，流体上入下出的方式可能会有利。
标准截止阀，由于设计可用于节流和切断，不应该在不到10%的开度下长期进行节流。如此会发生内件损伤。采用一个较小口径的阀门或者使用V型口阀芯，以增加阀门的开度，往往能够解决这样的问题。
V型口阀芯与旋塞阀或球阀相比，具有更接近线性的节流曲线，但这些类型的阀芯并不建议使用在连续苛刻的调节工况，此时或许要求使用一台控制阀。

V-porttrimhasamorelinearthrottlingcurvethanplugorballdiscs,butnoneofthesetrimsarerecommendedforcontinuousseverethrottlingwhichmayrequireusingacontrolvalve.
